With the summer upon us, now is a great time to get the word out about our community purchase project, and hopefully start raising some money!
We have booked stalls at the following events, the first of which is Harden Gala on 21 June:
Saturday 21 June - Harden Children's Gala
Saturday 28 June - Bingley Creates - Market Square, Bingley
Sunday 29 June - Wilsden Gala
Sunday 13 July - Cullingworth Gala
One of the trustees will be at each of the events, but we need some extra pairs of hands to help out and staff the stall. The stalls will be both about raising awareness and raising funds, so the sorts of things we'll be doing are:
having a Goit Stock Wood themed game
badge making
selling 'spotters guides' to local wildlife
selling artist postcards
giving out leaflets & talking to people about the project
inviting people to make donations
If you think you can help - even if only for part of the day - or you want to know more before committing, please let us know. Email goitstockwood@gmail.com or contact us on our website.
We are keen to engage everyone - of all ages - with our project. Getting children involved will help them learn about the wood and the importance of protecting nature, and we've thought of ideas such as organising a poster or photography competition to get children engaged. If you have contact with a local school (perhaps as a teacher, governor or parent) and are able to put is in touch with them, please let us know.
Our charity registration is still progressing, though the Charity Commission have told us it might take longer than we first thought as they have a large backlog. We're not letting that stop us from cracking on with the project though!
We've applied for a grant from Bradford Council (Shipley Community Chest) to help us with our start up costs, like printing leaflets and posters to distribute to local homes and businesses.
We've been busy talking to experts about the implications of buying the wood, including exciting topics like insurance!
We have been in touch with the vendors of the wood, who are very supportive. They have given us permission to fundraise within the wood, so you may see us there over the coming weeks. If you'd like to help with fundraising in the wood, please let us know!
We'd love to hear from anyone who is willing to help with fundraising, in any way - again, please let us know if you'd be willing to help.
Don't forget that there's lots of information about the project on our website, www.goitstock.org.uk, which we are keeping updated regularly.
Thanks for your support!
