The wood is open to the public on foot only, via a series of public footpaths across the site which can be seen on an Ordnance Survey map or OpenStreetMap.
It is around 1.6 km / 1 mile from Wilsden Road to the waterfall, and will take about 30 minutes each way to walk. From Wilsden Road, the first half of the footpath (as far as the Park Homes site) is follows a tarmac track, which is adjacent to the beck. This is a pretty area and the path here is suitable for wheelchair and pushchair users, however if you continue beyond the Park Homes site the footpath becomes very rocky and is uneven and slippery in places. Unfortunately the waterfall is not wheelchair accessible.
If you are walking to the waterfall you will need good footwear, especially after rain it can be muddy and slippery; take care.
From Harden, walk down Wilsden Road and turn right onto Goit Stock Lane. Follow the track along the beck and through the Harden Park Homes site, then continue onto the unpaved footpath with the beck on your right. The waterfalls are approximately another 15 minutes' walk.
From Wilsden - head North, down the main road to the Malt Shovel pub, follow the road across the bridge and turn immediately left onto Goit Stock Lane. Follow the directions as from Harden.
From Cullingworth - from the War Memorial, follow Greenside Lane to the end and turn left into Hallas Lane, then down Hallas Lane and continue onto the footpath. Follow the path down hill, it crosses the beck, turn left just after the bridge to enter the wood. Walking in this direction you will approach the waterfalls from upstream.
By bus - the 616 and 619 between Bradford and Bingley/Eldwick, and the K4 between Cullingworth and Keighley, stop in Harden near the end of Goit Stock Terrace, near the Malt Shovel pub. Walk down the hill towards the pub and turn right onto Goit Stock Lane.
The 67 bus between Bradford (via Denholme) and Keighley and the 502 between Halifax and Keighley stop in Cullingworth. Follow the directions on foot from Cullingworth above.
By train, the easiest way is to get a train to Bingley and then connect onto the 616/619 or K4 bus to Harden - or for a longer walk see the walking route from Bingley described below.
There is no public parking in the wood. The best parking is the on-street parking bays on Wilsden Road in Harden. If you park here, head down hill and follow the directions as on foot from Harden above. There is also some limited on-street parking in the village of Cullingworth (but not on Hallas Lane, which is unpaved). If you park here please park responsibly, being mindful of local residents, and follow the route on foot from Cullingworth as described above.
Do not drive down Goit Stock Lane. It is a private access track that only serves the houses on the lane and the Harden Park Homes site, there is no public parking space down the lane or at the Park Homes site. There is no public vehicle access, and there is nowhere to turn around - if you try to drive down here you will get stuck!
Unfortunately there are no bike paths/bridleways in the wood, and the footpaths are not suitable for cycling, even for mountain bikes. There is also no bike parking in or near the wood. (Maybe we'll be able to rectify this if our community purchase is successful!)
Alternative routes on foot only - there are alternative footpaths into the wood including via Bents Lane and Leech Lane, which can be seen on a map. There is no parking available in these places, so please only use these paths if you are travelling on foot.
The map pin above shows the best place to park if you are visiting Goit Stock Wood - on Wilsden Road in Harden.
Take care on the paths, they are rocky and slippery in places.
The waterfall is extremely dangerous due to strong currents, do not try to swim.
The wood is a peaceful natural space - there are no toilets, cafe or other facilities in the wood. For toilets or refreshments please support one of our local businesses such as the Malt Shovel pub or the other businesses in nearby Harden, Wilsden or Cullingworth.
There are no picnic benches in the wood. If you bring food and drink to enjoy in the wood, please respect the natural beauty and take all litter home with you. Nobody is paid to clear up after you.
Please also note that since the wood is in a deep valley, mobile phone signal is patchy at best.
Bingley Walkers Are Welcome have a detailed description on their website of a circular walk from Bingley via Goit Stock, Hewenden Viaduct and St Ives Estate.
Goit Stock Wood features in the excellent book The West Yorkshire Woods Part II - The Aire Valley by Christopher Goddard, which includes some beautiful hand-drawn maps and sketches and a lot of interesting local history (and lots of other great local walks too).
If you visit, please respect the wood. Take only photographs and leave only footprints! Please take all litter and dog waste home with you, or use the litter bins provided by the council on Goit Stock Lane or Wilsden Road.
The water is not suitable for swimming. Do not, under any circumstances, jump in or attempt to enter the water. The waterfalls are incredibly dangerous and people have sadly been drowned and killed after getting trapped in the water, most recently in 2021.
Fire risk!
After weeks of dry weather, our local woodlands are vulnerable to wild fires, which can be very damaging. On 8 April 2025 there was a fire at Cottlingley Woods, just up the road from Goit Stock, which burned a large area of woodland.
Never use barbecues or other fires in the woods, and do not drop cigarette butts or other litter. More information is available from West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service
